Additions to FAO.texture2.txt R.B. Lammers, December 6, 2001 Water was defined as having 0% for all classes. The following fields were added to FAO.texture2.txt: PercentSand, PercentSilt, and PercentClay. The values were derived from a ternary diagram showing the distributions of the soils. For the three basic TextureCodes (coarse, medium, and fine) an average point was located on the ternary diagram. This gave the percent values. For the aggregate classes (coarse+medium, coarse+fine, medium+fine, and coarse+medium+fine) averaging of the appropriate contributing basic class was used. lithosol was arbitrarily set to 100% sand and caution should be used when using this. The new table is as follows: "TextureCode" "FAOTexture" "PercentSand" "PercentSilt" "PercentClay" 0 "lithosol" 100 0 0 1 "coarse" 80 10 10 2 "medium" 35 45 20 3 "fine" 20 20 60 4 "coarse+medium" 60 25 15 5 "coarse+fine" 50 15 35 6 "medium+fine" 30 30 40 7 "coarse+medium+fine" 45 25 30 8 "lithosol" 100 0 0 -99 "water" 0 0 0 -9999 "NoData" "NoData" "NoData" "NoData"
